Venice museums and exhibitions besides the Biennale ARTE

The opening of the Venice Biennale gets all the covers of art magazines and while it is definitely interesting and worth the time to be visited there are several “gems” relatively small museum linked with the history of Venice. In this post I spend a few words on them.

The Guggenheim Museum in Venice

The lovestory of Peggy Guggenheim with this city and the palace itself are fascinating but the permanent collection of artworks is definitely mesmerizing. On top of this until September 2024 there is an exhibition on Jaen Cocteau.

Palazzo Grassi and Punta Della Dogana

The Pinault collection ensures that the splendid architecture of the two buildings is matched by stimulating art, current Exibitions are on Pierre Huyghe at Punta Della Dogana, and Jukue Mehretu at Palazzo Grassi.  They are all reasonable close to the museum I wrote abuve and they could be a very nice reason to Explore Dorsoduro district.

Fondazione Musei Civici Di Venezia

these are many museums all belonging to the foundations of civic museums of Venice, the probably most visited ones are The Doge’s Palace ( that now hosts an exhibition on Marco Polo) and Museo Correr right across st.Marks square. Their program is full of events, I described several of their cultural activities in Venice in another blog post, to that list I add the initiative on Marco Polo’s alphabet at Mocenigo Palace (museum of costume and parfumes).
